Workshop Fun

I recently held two workshops in Durban for the daughter of a friend. She had attended a workshop I had earlier in the year and had so much fun she wanted MORE! I think the soap bug has bitten her.

For the first workshop they made cupcake soaps, fizz bombs, sugar scrub and a bar of soap with dolphin stickers.

And for the second  workshop they made cupcake soaps (this is always a hit), fizz bombs, sugar scrub and a bath scrunchie set in soap.

We all had a lot of fun and I am sure I will be seeing the girls again soon.

Wartburg Christmas Market

I have just finished my busiest market of the year in Wartburg. OMG, busy is an understatement. We really worked hard and I am grateful to my good friend Jen who helps me every year as I would not manage this market on my own.

She took some amazing pictures and really made my products look good. Thanks Jen you are a star.

It's here, it's here, it's finally here

My sister cam e to visit recently and she brought along with here the long awaited book " Soap Crafting" By Anne- Marie Faiola.

I was glued to the book for days and finally went into the soap lab to make a recipe.

I chose Avocado moisture bars and this is my version

I like my soaps to have a colour theme when I am at market so I made this soap to sit next to it on the table

Making Mould Liners

Mould Liners-015

I saw this post on lining a mould using liquid Latex. As I had some in stock I thought I would give it a try.

I have to say it takes a LONG time to do. About 3 days in total. I waited for it to dry in between coats but then had to go off to make a delivery or make soap. I am sure it would probably only take a day if you were dedicated but I do tend to multi task (not always a good thing).

I used a product called Dala Casting rubber that you paint on. It is available in most craft stores. Use a large fine bristled brush and paint on a thin layer. It looks white when you first paint it on then dries to a yellowish colour.

I painted 4 coats but I think I will do more next time. It is quite thin but totally useable.

Once dry, I peeled from the wood and then clipped it back on to keep it upright. The sides are so thin they just collapse back on themselves.

Peeling the mould off the soap is SUPER easy. The only problem I did have was that the bottom pitted into the soap - right picture

Here is the finished soap. NICE
