We recently posted this cute teddy soap on Facebook that we had been testing and we were asked to make some for a baby shower in cream and white so we thought we would share the process.

Mini Desserts - a soap club challenge
I have been a little separated from my blog this year. The best laid plans have gone awry leaving me behind in my posting and I have just not managed to catch up. I will have to spend a good few hours post dating.
Anyway this month we had our challenge from Amy Warden at Great Cakes Soapworks - Mini desserts. I have to admit I was a little intimidated by these tiny suckers! Once I got over that intimidation I had a lot of fun.
My first desert was Pistachio Dream cake. I used chocolate chips for the base and also added a little chocolate brown oxide to ensure I got a deep chocolaty brown. For the chocolate curl I shaved little of the base off and then piped a "Leaf" onto the top and then pushed the chocolate curl onto this.
Strawberry Mousse Cake: I made this dessert with White chocolate chips and Titanium Di oxide to ensure I got a good white base. I then coloured the base with Red Dayglo and titanium di oxide to get pastel pink. I then piped roses and added leaves with the same green I used on the leaf of the Pistachio cake.
Mini Strawberry Cupcake: I did not use any food in this cupcake. I did use the same roses as the Mousse cake and piped the leaf onto in at the end. I started with the base, using red Dayglo, then a day later piped the icing and then added the rose and leaf on the same day.
Strawberry Meringue Pie: I used Chocolate chips in the base along with desiccated coconut. I then poured pink soap coloured with red dayglo and titanium di oxide onto the base and then piped white soap onto the top. I added coloured jojoba beads for the sprinkles.
Thanks Amy. This was a lot of fun and not as intimidating as I had initially imagined. i will definitely be making more in the future.

Making Solid Bubble Bath
This was a LOT harder than it looks. The mixture stuck to my hands, then it stuck to the rolling pin and everything else it touched.
I do have to say, though, I am very please with the result. I think they would make really nice Baby shower favours.
They are already all sold out. YAY

Market Day - thank you 'Kloofies'...!!
After a blanket of snow was thrown over the Drakensberg and Midlands Meander, and incessant rains for almost two weeks, the outlook for the market in Kloof looked dismal. But, the sun came out in all its glory for us, and our market stall which was outdoors under a garden umbrella and the shade of very old, very tall, beautiful trees even attracted the local bees!
Market days are always such fun for us as we get to meet our end-user clients and hear their stories first hand. The reactions to our natural handmade soap products, the amazing fragrances and creative ideas for corporate events, special functions, weddings and baby showers are all the reward we need to remain inspired. If you want to see what they were oo-ing and ah-ing about, visit our Riverlea Soap website and view the online product catalogue.
Thank you to the organizers, and our Mad Hatters who ensured we had our heads covered with various hat masterpieces and were always colour-coordinated!
Do you have market tales to share? I would love to hear from you.
Loads of fun, see you all again next year!

Alphabet Soup er Soap
Colour – I used green and yellow
Plastic mould with round indentations
- Melt your clear soap base in the microwave in 30 second bursts. When fully melted add your colour and stir gently.
- Add half your fragrance oil.
- Pour a small amount carefully into your mould, enough to cover the bottom, and spritz with the rubbing alcohol to remove any bubbles.
- Take your letters and place them in the clear soap you have just poured. Allow the soap to get a skin then pour another layer of clear soap over the letters. Enough to cover about half way up the mould cavity.
- Melt your white/opaque base in the microwave. Add colour again and the rest of your fragrance oil.
- Once your clear soap has set with a thick skin, spray rubbing alcohol onto it (this helps the next layer stick) and very carefully pour the melted opaque soap onto the clear soap containing the letters. If your soap is too hot it will melt the first layer and the letters will float to the top. I added a layer of glitter before I poured the opaque base.
- You can also use clear M and P instead of opaque. I also made some like this.
- Let your soap cool for at least 2 hours before trying to release from the mould.

Planes
- 300gr White/ opaque Melt and Pour Base (this depends on how big your moulds are and how many you want to make. Determine how big your mould is by putting it on a scale and pouring water into one of the cavities.
- Colour – I used red and blue
- Fragrance – 1.5 % of the soap base
- Aeroplane mould
- Microwave Jug
- Rubbing Alcohol to spray bubbles away
- Melt your soap base in the microwave in 30 second bursts. When melted add your colour and fragrance and stir gently.
- Pour carefully into your moulds and spritz the rubbing alcohol to remove any bubbles.
- Allow the soaps to get hard for about 1hour then remove them and repeat the process with the blue colour.
- The soaps will need to be wrapped or bagged soon after making or they will start to “sweat”
