Night Skyline - M&P embeds a tutorial

I originally got this technique from a book I bought called Soapylove. You can see my first attempt at it here. This was one of the soaps used with the team building exercise for Grindrod. You can see the other soap they made here.

Embeds (31)

You will need:
Clear soap base
Black Oxide
Flash Gold Mica
IPA
Fragrance oil
Any small mould you want to use
Cookie cutters or a craft knife to cut our your shapes
Microwave jugs

How to:
Melt some clear soap base, enough to create your buildings and moon. I think the moon should have been white not yellow but it still looks good.
Separate the soap into smaller containers and mix your colours
Black oxide for the buildings
Flash Gold mica or titanium di oxide for the moon
Pour a thin layer of each colour into your moulds, or just onto a marble counter top. These will be used to cut out your embeds.

Embeds (3)

Cut out your sky scrapers

Embeds (5)

Cut out your moon

Embeds (13)

Once all your pieces are cut out place them in your mould to see that they will fit comfortably
Remove the pieces and place them facing up
Now make sure you have melted more clear soap base ready for the next step
Spray all your soap embeds with IPA
Pour a small layer of clear soap into your mould and quickly place your embeds FACE DOWN into the soap and spritz with IPA

Embeds (31)

Wait for about 40 minutes or until the soap is cold to the touch
To release from the mould break the airlock by squeezing the corners together gently.
If the soap does not pop out easily then leave it for a while longer

There you have it embed skyline soap

Market Day - thank you 'Kloofies'...!!

A very big thank you to all the supporters of the Thomas More College Country Fair held on Saturday 30th July in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

After a blanket of snow was thrown over the Drakensberg and Midlands Meander, and incessant rains for almost two weeks, the outlook for the market in Kloof looked dismal. But, the sun came out in all its glory for us, and our market stall which was outdoors under a garden umbrella and the shade of very old, very tall, beautiful trees even attracted the local bees!

Market days are always such fun for us as we get to meet our end-user clients and hear their stories first hand. The reactions to our natural handmade soap products, the amazing fragrances and creative ideas for corporate events, special functions, weddings and baby showers are all the reward we need to remain inspired. If you want to see what they were oo-ing and ah-ing about, visit our Riverlea Soap website and view the online product catalogue.

Thank you to the organizers, and our Mad Hatters who ensured we had our heads covered with various hat masterpieces and were always colour-coordinated!

Do you have market tales to share? I would love to hear from you.

Loads of fun, see you all again next year!
