Team Building with Grindrod
A few weeks ago we were invited to do a team building workshop with Grindrod.
We had a stunning setting at Audacia Manor. It was a balmy night but maybe a little windy so we had some fun chasing runaway papers.
Katie did an amazing job setting up all the tables with instructions and ingredients. The ladies were divided into teams to make their fizz bombs and to make it more challenging they also had to work simultaneously in another group to make their rainbow cakes. They did an amazing job and came up with some beautiful creations.
They created stunning fizz bombs with bright colours and botanicals.
Mixing the melt and pour clear soap base with colours and fragrances for the rainbow cakes. Each team had to decide which colours they wanted in their cakes and which order they wanted to pour them in.
Spritzing the layers with IPA in between each layer.
Pouring the next layer or Clear soap base.
The finished rainbow cake - beautiful
After they had had a taste of how to work with Melt and pour soup we set them a challenge to make a fun embed soaps. I gave them some samples which you can see here and here. The objective was not to copy our examples but to use them as ideas and make their own. The first one was a fun one and the second soap was a competition where they had to make an embed soap that best depicted their company, which is a shipping/ transport company.
I was blown away at how creative these ladies are.
The winners of the competition each received a fizz bomb kit and all ladies walked away with a M&P Soap making kit. Sadly it got too dark and we did not get pictures of the completed soaps but I know the ladies had an awesome time as did Katie and I.

Mantra Marbles - a Soap club challenge entry
This was a fun challenge and I learned a lot about swirling in this technique.
We used Peacock Green Mica, Titanium Di Oxide, Shine Red Mica , Peach Pink Mica and Apple Green Mica. I used the non pareil method and it is fragranced with Neroli Essential oil.
This is Amy's entry, which I think is beautiful.
I had a few attempts at this but I love the colours in this option which was my first attempt.
I will definitely be doing this technique again, thanks Amy

Night Skyline - M&P embeds a tutorial
I originally got this technique from a book I bought called Soapylove. You can see my first attempt at it here. This was one of the soaps used with the team building exercise for Grindrod. You can see the other soap they made here.
You will need: |
Clear soap base |
Black Oxide |
Flash Gold Mica |
IPA |
Fragrance oil |
Any small mould you want to use |
Cookie cutters or a craft knife to cut our your shapes |
Microwave jugs |
How to: |
Melt some clear soap base, enough to create your buildings and moon. I think the moon should have been white not yellow but it still looks good. |
Separate the soap into smaller containers and mix your colours |
Black oxide for the buildings |
Flash Gold mica or titanium di oxide for the moon |
Pour a thin layer of each colour into your moulds, or just onto a marble counter top. These will be used to cut out your embeds. |
Cut out your sky scrapers |
Cut out your moon |
Once all your pieces are cut out place them in your mould to see that they will fit comfortably |
Remove the pieces and place them facing up |
Now make sure you have melted more clear soap base ready for the next step |
Spray all your soap embeds with IPA |
Pour a small layer of clear soap into your mould and quickly place your embeds FACE DOWN into the soap and spritz with IPA |
Wait for about 40 minutes or until the soap is cold to the touch |
To release from the mould break the airlock by squeezing the corners together gently. |
If the soap does not pop out easily then leave it for a while longer |
There you have it embed skyline soap
